January slowly turned into February which means that the event I’ve been waiting for since the end of the Summer Olympics has finally arrived. The 2026 Winter Olympics! My show is so on.
Even though the opening ceremony was only this Friday, my favorite part of the Olympics actually started the week before with the Olympians arrival at the legendary Winter Village. I am of course talking about the TikToks these busy athletes make time to grace us the viewers back home with so we can experience the games with them.
From daily vlogs showing us their routines and run-ins with other athletes, to goodie bag hauls filled with clothes from iconic brands like Skims and Ralph Lauren so stylish that it got me seriously considering learning a sport for the mere chance to receive them, and to my favorite Olympic content, dining hall dessert reviews.
But seriously, watching people who worked so hard to be there and pushed themself physically and mentally beyond what most people are capable of is such a motivating experience. And learning that many of them are full-time students and parents has got me reassessing my own time management skills.
Besides the delightful vlogs, my main focus these games is on the figure skating teams, and so far they have not disappointed. Figure skating is known for drama and these games are no exception. From last ever performance of legendary champions, to the newest talent of the figure skating world making their Olympic debut, and the most magnificent ice dance performance since Scott Moir and Tessa Virtue performed their 2018 Moulin Rouge program that inspired a whole Netflix show and a young adult book.
For those wondering, my favorite so far is the free dance by Madison Chock and Evan Bates to “Paint It, Black.” I wanted to write all about it, but I found it impossible to describe in words. I guess it’s one of those things that moves you in an indescribable way lol. I highly suggest you watch it. I definitely will for the tenth time today after I post this blog.
Anyway, if I start training right now, you might catch me at the 2030 Winter Olympics. All I need is to just pick a sport. Skiing and figure skating are out of the question, so I’m leaning towards the luge.
Wish me luck.
Until next time
