how often do you hit
a 50/50?

it sounds like a good chance
at first
one or the other,
two halves that make a whole,
the flip of a coin balanced on its end

favorable, right?

turns out I only hit the odds
when it doesn’t matter.

and even with nothing but pride on the line
lady luck abandons me
for fairer partners
or simple whim
before returning to me again

one week later.

it would be nice to win again
but I find myself missing
those 50/50 odds.
