Just like every person I know, I’ve been rewatching Stranger Things in preparation for the fifth and final season that’s so close to coming out it’s doesn’t feel real. It feels surreal because this show has been a part of my life for so long that I can’t imagine it ever ending. I think the first season came out when I was –gasp– in middle school.
But like all good things, it too must come to an end.
If you’ve never watched the show, let me convince you why you should before all the spoilers get out.
The story starts in a tiny town called Hawkins, Indiana in 1983, and follows a group of friends, a local sheriff, and a mother looking for answers when a boy named Will goes missing. On their journey, the kids encounter a girl with psychokinetic abilities who just escaped from a secret government lab near their town, which leads them to discover that their friend is not simply lost but was abducted by a monster from an alternate dimension the government has been hiding. The kids must race against time to find Will before it’s too late.
Although I liked the first season, my favorite out of the four currently out is season 2. Probably because it’s set in the fall and has arguably the best storyline.
One of the reason I love this show because of the 80’s nostalgia. Even though I wasn’t born until the 2000’s, the 80’s music and outfits and setting make me so happy.
I also really like the side plots and little romances that develop as the show goes on.
But my favorite thing about this show has got to be the characters.
The stars of the show are the ever growing group of kids who constantly run into trouble and their older siblings who get roped into helping them and form their own group.
I think every character is so fun and adds so much to the story, but my favorite character since season 1 has been and always will be Steve Herrington.
I think Steve went through such a long journey from where he started that he’s just impossible not to love.
I can’t believe that the show runners originally intended to kill him in season 1, and I will go into mourning if the rumors about him meeting his demise in the series finale are true.
I love how Steve unintentionally becomes the big brother figure to the kiddies and how they constantly drag him into the most insane situations.
It’s also funny how he has the worst luck with romantic relationships and it’s so sad to watch because he’s got such a good heart. Seriously please, someone like Steve back!
Sorry, this post is turning into a Steve Herrington love letter so I’ll stop here, but I hope my ramblings convince you to give Stranger Things a chance.
Happy watching!
Until next time,
Good evening , Mikhal Tubis
I loved the background information that you gave about stranger things and I can only say that it didn’t take me much convincing because stranger things has been one of my favorite shows to watch. Not only that but I also loved the way you went into detail about what stranger things really is about I feel like a lot of people who watch it don’t really understand it but I can tell that you did. Also a lot of people who watch stranger things say that it’s boring and they fall asleep watching it but I’ve never ever fell asleep watching the show maybe I’m bias because it’s my favorite show but i genuinely love it. And I would have to disagree on who your favorite character is because mine has to be Eleven not only because of the big role she plays in the show but also because she has grown so much and even if everyone like her turned evil she chose to be good and help instead of hurt or maybe.. because I’ve heard some theories about her but that only makes me like her even more. But also I’ve heard Steve is a lot of people’s favorite and that someone should really like him back but we all know he’s crazy for Nancy still but he’s still a sweetheart and has changed soo much like you said. I also liked how you included the fact that the shows is in the 80s and I also loved that I feel like it gives it a different look and it adds more meaning to the whole show. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and experiences with stranger things I also agree that other people should watch it and tell you about it.
Sincerely

Hello Mikhal,
Your blog really stood out to me, and for different reasons you might not expect. I’m not much of a show fanatic and find some fiction kind of annoying, but I do enjoy Pretty Little Liars and Modern Family from time to time every summer or on occasional breaks but rarely. I’m more of a “if it’s out in theaters I’ll watch it I guess” type of person. My friend had been begging me to start Stranger Things even before it became mainstream. I had her explain the plot years ago but you did a great job of summarizing and making me remember bits of that special memory of when we were children. I did think the plot was interesting and I knew I would find it enjoyable. But that was the problem. If it’s fun it makes me rewire my brain unintentionally to be more distracted. Also as time went on it felt too much to catch up with. The fan based community already felt mature, it felt too big and complex. I hate starting things late. Yet, I do love your enthusiasm for this show a lot. I love seeing people passionate about something. You can clearly notice your positive tone towards the topic not only because of what you wrote but also how you wrote it. For example I loved the little gasping expression in the beginning, I found it cute. I love that you’re also knowledgeable enough to give us a good summary and convince the reader into wanting to watch it. I think your enthusiasm and summary did it for me. If I have time after finals and work, I’d definitely like to get a few episodes in to see what the hype is about. It warms my heart to see people get all nerdy about something. It makes me even happier when I can engage that nerdiness in them, it kind of brings out their inner childhood you know? They get all gleamy, eyes lit up like my brother when I agree to play roblox with him every now and then.
Take care,
Jahan M
