She walked on the path to make her pay
Stressing of bills that are far months away

Happy to have a job, but sighed anyway

She worked all day, bustlin’ and movin’
Thinking of how many more hours she needed to cover her kid’ schoolin’

“My coffee!”
“My food is cold”
Attentive, she walks towards her customers with a smile so bright
But inwardly, she felt anything but delight.

Lunchtime

She walked past her boss in the empty hall in the back
Who couldn’t help but to keep his eyes on nothing but her back
Slowly he creeps into a chair in front of her
But she rushes back to the front to save herself

She walked home thinking of dinner
Three kids to feed in this cold ass winter

She walked instead of taking the bus
That’s three dollars that could pay for my stuff

She walked to relieve her head of the pain
‘Ain’t no way up out this hood. No way.’
