Reflections

When heartbreak happens, it is easy to fixate on the bad and the painful and the deeply sad. But sometimes, in moments of clarity, you remember the good and the happy and beautiful. Sometimes a smell or a sound brings you back to those small and self contained moments which are so perfect you know you will miss them. It has been an emotionally trying time for me and so, instead of grieving, I wanted to reflect on the positive by revisiting poetry from a happy place:

I lay with you in the darkness

and I hear your heart

it is loud and consuming

and it travels through my bones like the liquid sun

these are the moments when I am with you

when I am pressed against you

and I cannot see,

but I can feel

when we are one entity

and leg blends into arm

and chest into cheek

and it is silent

the hum of your tires on pavement

the inhale and exhale of breath

the ebb and flow of conversation

the life and the light and the beauty of one another’s company

this is the noise

but in the quiet dark there is nothing

in the silence of your room at midnight

there is just you

there is just me

and deep down,

I feel you.
