JT Music (previously known as JT Machinima): “We make video game music and other stuff”

How are you? Feeling stressed, confused and/or sleepy? Is the internet spookily in tune with your mood, offering articles that might or might not help? For example, just today, I read a rather insightful article on why my brain might be deleting useless memories. The only problems I had with it were that it didn’t explain why my brain thought memories of my study notes and college lectures were unnecessary, and it didn’t mention how I could convince my brain to stop deleting the location of my phone (wallet, textbook, etc.) as soon as I placed it somewhere. It’s because of stress, – says my mum. Have you seen this one about the science of stress or this one about how to defeat your night-time phone addiction? Or how about these two inspirational articles about taming your mammoth and having/gaining the courage to be yourself? Maybe you happened upon these two advice-filled articles on how to schedule your day for peak productivity and on how to rid yourself of thoughts clogging up your brain?

Useful those articles were/are. But one of my tried-and-tested methods to relieve part of the stress of exam/final paper season is to blast music (and occasionally hide under the blankets, feeling sorry for myself). However, not any type of music will do – one of my brother’s and my go-to choices is video game music, especially that of the artist by the name of JT Music. And below you can find 4 different songs about 4 different games (all of which are worth checking out if you have the time to play or watch someone play (I suggest Markiplier) them) that we have voted today’s best. Honestly, there are so many brilliant songs and artists that we don’t have set-in-stone favorites (though my brother might disagree).

By clicking on the game titles, you will find links to the official game websites.

Bendy and the Ink Machine (BATIM) is an episodic first-person puzzle action horror game that begins in the far days past of animation and ends in a very dark future. Play as Henry as he revisits the demons of his past by exploring the abandoned animator’s workshop of Joey Drew Studios. With twists and turns around every corner, “Bendy and the Ink Machine” is sure to thrill you… and decimate your childhood.  You’ll never look at cartoons the same way again.

Solve the riddle. Escape the workshop.

Above all, fear the machine and survive.”

UNDERTALE:

“In this RPG, you don’t have to kill anyone.

Each enemy can be “defeated” nonviolently.

Dance with a slime. Pet a dog. Whisper your favorite secret to a knight.

Or, ignore this choice and rain destruction upon your foes.

But your journey will take determination

Don’t know why…But a lot of people love this game.

Who knows. You may love it too.”

#3

Little Nightmares:

“Immerse yourself in Little Nightmares, a dark whimsical tale that will confront you with your childhood fears as you help Six escape The Maw – a vast, mysterious vessel inhabited by corrupted souls looking for their next meal!”

“Each room is a cell, each resident a threat, and both are puzzles to untangle. Reconnect with your inner child, unleash your imagination, and stay out of harm’s way. Master Six’s every movement in a super-sized world where even the smallest doubt can lead to a fatal misstep.”

#4

Five Night’s at Freddy’s (FNAF): Designed by a man named Scott Cawthon.

You love playing horror/thriller games? Then, FNAF is the game for you.

“Five Nights at Freddy’s, often abbreviated as FNaF, is the first installment of this fun and dark point-and-click horror title. You work as a security guard and you are working shifts at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza place. Freddy and his co-workers are animatronic robots who perform all the duties at the pizza place. During the day they are model employees, but during the night they start to act strangely!

As a security guard, you must keep watch and survey the CCTV cameras to ensure that the pizza place is kept in working order and safe. This might sound easy, but the bizarre and troubling behavior of the robots might prove difficult to control! You must survive as a security guard for five consecutive nights with a limited amount of resources and power – can you do it? Once you have played this episode, why not check out the second installment too?”

Invigorating, right? All of these games are tied to different emotional times I’ve experienced during these recent years, and each became a large part of my life. I spent many an hour pouring over the various details of these and other games: the characters, “the villains” and “the heroes,” the plot, the numerous game theories, and so on. The perfection and ingenuity of these spectacular stories to this day bring tears to my eyes, and laughter to my fleshy frame. I highly suggest checking these and other video games out if you haven’t already – no summary/interpretation (text or in the form of a song) can cover all of the aspects of these games but they can provide a peek into their diverse and fantastical worlds.

Hopefully, at least one of these songs got stuck in your head. Good luck with finals everyone! Remember to breathe.
