Silhouettes

As each day passes

I come to realize I see more

Of myself within my shadow

Than the face of a mirror

Dark matter on pavement

Alive to every sunrise

Reserved when it hides behind clouds

Or when the moon watches the sky

Animation of the living

Two dimensional being knowing no limits

Mirrors,

Can distort the world around you

Reminder of the human you are

Seeing everything contrary to what

Beauty is to be

When people say how much you look like your father

You can see the deadbeat in your profile

And the faded scars from

The beatings he gave you

No matter how much you scrub your face

His Mistake still remains

Like the birthmark under your right eye

Indentation over your right eyebrow

From the bed frame edge

You will start lifting weights

Because you have your father’s frame

From his younger days

You hate your skinny

You will hate the your skin

You will stand out in the sun

Wishing that it can match your step father’s

You close your eyes

And think about everything you want to be

What you want to look like

What you want to become

Open them to see

Everything you try to escape from

But remember that you aren’t him

But as lively as your shadow

Because Silhouettes takes the shape of

The person who casts it

And yours is a Titan

Only if you allow it to be…
