Thank you to those who attended and/or performed at last Tuesday’s English Majors’ Open Mic. It was a successful afternoon of profound writing that showcased the many beautiful voices here at Brooklyn College. If you didn’t get a chance to make it or perform this time around, feel free to come prepared to next semester’s English Majors’ Open Mic! It is an encouraging environment to read your work and perform original pieces.

And now, for the action-packed announcements…
AT BROOKLYN COLLEGE:
- This Thursday, November 2, there will be a 12:30 screening of the film Watched at the Woody Tanger Auditorium. Watched documents the events surrounding two Muslim Brooklyn College students who were victims of undercover NYPD surveillance on campus. There will be a discussion after the film with journalist Aviva Stahl and Political Science Professor Jeanne Thoharis.

- The V-Day Committee here at Brooklyn College is looking for its 2018 cast of The Vagina Monologues. Auditions will be held on November 9 and November 10. More information can be found via the contact information posted below, or by asking fellow interns Lisbett Rodriguez, who works at The Women’s Center, and Marie Pruitt, who has performed in the play before.

- The Mellon Transfer Student Research Program is a semester-long research program specifically aimed at transfer students interested in research/independent study. The deadline is November 16, 2017. - The English Majors’ Office is currently accepting submissions for the Junction Literary Magazine. You may submit up to four poems and four pages of prose. Artwork submissions, such as photographs, paintings, and drawings, are being accepted as well. You may either drop off a hand copy to 3416 Boylan or send your material as an attachment to bczinesubmissions@gmail.com. What are you waiting for? Send in your work!

- Professor Natov’s Office Hours are as follows: Monday: 11:00 am – 4:00 pm; Tuesday: 10:00 am – 10:45 am and 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm; Thursday: 10:00 am – 10:45 am and 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm. If you have any questions regarding requirements pertaining to an English Major or the upcoming spring semester, feel free to make an appointment with Professor Natov or stop by to be assisted by an intern!
OTHER ANNOUNCEMENTS:
- Next Tuesday, November 7, is Election Day. Every poll site location is open from 6 AM to 9 PM. To learn more about where, how, and who to vote for in this year’s election, visit NYC’s Voting in Elections page which will help you make an informed decision. Start getting familiar with the candidates on the ballots along with your stance on this year’s crucial vote concerning New York’s Constitutional Convention.

- On Sunday, November 12 at 2:00 pm, The Workman’s Circle, an initiative that has been “cultivating a proudly progressive, diverse and inclusive community rooted in Jewish culture and social action for more than a century,” will be hosting a Youth Defend DACA/Immigrant Rights Event. The event will be held on the 5th Floor at The Workmen’s Circle Headquarters, which is located on 247 West 37th Street. It is open for anyone interested in fighting for social justice. - On Friday, November 17, The Metropolitan Museum of Art is hosting a Career Insights night. It is open to all undergraduate and graduate students who wonder what it would be like to work in a museum and what jobs museums have to offer. - Habitat Magazine, a literary publication of fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, and visual media, is currently accepting submissions until December 31, 2017.
