2017-2018 N.B.A Season

I am very happy to inform you all that the NBA season is officially upon us. There are many things to be excited about this season. We could talk about the athleticism of the athletes and the spectacle of the game. Instead, I want to talk about what I am looking forward to most of this season The drama. The story lines. The heroes and villains of the NBA. For 71 years, the NBA has been must-watch TV. There are 30 teams with at least just as many interesting personal narratives. I don’t have the time or space here to cover them all! So I will just focus on the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Oklahoma City Thunder is the home for Paul George, Carmelo Anthony, and Russell Westbrook. Three players who are trying to write their legacies this year. A couple of years ago, Paul George suffered a terrible injury while playing for USA basketball. He suffered a compound fracture on his leg. I won’t show the disturbing injury but these are his teammates’ reaction to him getting hurt.

Damn

Luckily he is still 28 years young and can still prove he is just as good as he was before his unfortunate injury.

Carmelo Anthony might be a familiar name to those who don’t watch basketball. Until recently he played right here for our pathetic team in New York. Carmelo Anthony leaving is like when you go through a breakup but still want the best for your ex. It just didn’t work out even though you wish it did. Like a new semester, this is his opportunity to bring his overall G.P.A. up.

You look happier” – Ed Sheeran

Someone else who knows about breakups is Russell Westbrook. Until last year, he was competing every year for the championship. Until his teammate, Kevin Durant, left him for the new and shiny Golden State Warriors. If you worked for a startup and had success until your best coworker went to Apple, you would be a little bitter too.

Last year he basically played by himself. He won the league’s highest individual honor, the Most Valuable Player Award. However, his team couldn’t compete and was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs. It was quite a fall from being in the Conference Finals just a year before when Durant was on the team. Now, he has help from the two gentlemen previously discussed. Three underdogs who must overcome past failures to write their names in the hall of champions of the N.B.A. We are rooting for you, gentlemen.
