Flash Fiction
The First Sleepless Night Afterwards
I won’t regret the desire to let you sleep in, a tiny testament of my love for you. But every day I will regret not waking you up to say goodbye. Instead, I kissed you softly on the cheek, never doubting I’d see you later.
Lost
Driving upstate with you was always an adventure because I never could admit when we were lost. We passed plenty of rest stops and gas stations as you laughed at my stubbornness. Eventually, you’d find us on the map and we’d get back on track. The cops said you saved that kid’s life when you swerved. The car’s totaled, but the map is fine. I know it’s too late now, but I’m admitting it. I’m lost without you.
