Dearest fellow readers, writers, and philologists,
October crashes down upon us, with leaves falling and midterms looming (or perhaps, if you are breathing a sigh of relief, finished), and the weather variable as ever. But let’s not think about time as it falls away from us. We will instead, stay in the NOW, the mysterious place on the horizon that is at the same time instantaneously HERE. We reach out as if it is before us, not back into our pasts, boats against currents, for the tidal waves of the NOW bless and curse us with their torrential downpours, which lead me into our weekly announcements.

First: The sign-up sheet for the Open Mic is up on the door of 3416 Boylan Hall. The Open Mic will be held on the 22nd of October, in the Woody Tanger Auditorium, which is in our very lovely library. We will be there, sharing words, songs, and general, tomfooling, communal, literary love from 12:30 until about 2:15pm. We welcome new, old, and slightly soggy writers to share up to five minutes of original work. If you’ve never shared work publicly before, now is your chance! No judgments, just snaps.
Second: If you are putting your name on the door, you might as well pop your head in and say hello! We have peer counseling Monday-Thursday, as well as copies of our literary magazine, The Junction, on hand and ready for your perusal! Come see our favorite literary figures dressed up for Halloween! Come see our off-holiday holiday lights! Come look at our practical stuff, like upcoming literary opportunities! Come see our beautiful faces, because we want to see yours.
Third: We are accepting submissions for The Junction, which we put out every spring. You can email submissions tobczinesubmissions [at] gmail [dot] com.  It’s never too early to submit, and we’d love to see your work in the written word or crafted image. Elections for the Riverrun club, which produces The Junction will be held today, October 15, all day in 3416 Boylan.
Here’s your weekly picture of a cat, I guess.
